Victoria Island, November 2020

Victoria Island is one of the most exclusive and expensive areas to live in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole. The neighborhood is so well known that even the names of its streets have become iconic across the nation. This island is only one of Lagos’ districts that has the most unparalleled skyline. Victoria Island is one of Nigeria’s busiest centres of banking and commerce, with most major Nigerian and international corporations headquartered on the Island. The Island has continued to rapidly develop. It is a favorite spot for Nigerians and foreigners to live and chill.

Being one of the main business and financial hub of Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria, there is a high demand good performance of mobile networks. This report is based on our experience in the LTE networks in Victoria Island during day time hours. The drive was conducted on the 3rd of November 2020 between the hours of 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

The four mobile wireless broadband service providers evaluated are MTN, Globacom, 9Mobile and Airtel. The performance of the radio access networks of each service provider along each evaluated route, in comparison with the other service providers, is rated, using the following KPI weights: Connection Drop rate, 15%; Connection Setup Failure rate, 20%; Downlink Throughput distribution, 20%; Peak Downlink Throughput, 20%; Latency, 20% and Non-LTE UE Technology 5%.

Summary

We performed our National  Independent Wireless Broadband Reporting, NIWBQR, on mobile wireless experience in Victoria Island, Lagos. This report provides detailed information on user experience on the 4G mobile networks. We have also added a network visualization application to display key results from NIWBQR on a map accessible to interested parties.
Our primary mission is to facilitate the ability of Nigerians to gain reliable and cost-effective access to mobile broadband LTE networks. This also provides national mobile network operators an opportunity to reduce churn and achieve a rapid increase in broadband subscription.

A report containing our ranking and detailed RF Analysis is available for a fee.
We collect comprehensive RF Performance data on the Networks of Mobile Broadband Service Providers in Nigeria. The raw UE log is available to interested service providers for use in further improving the quality of their networks.
