Ikeja is the capital of Lagos state. it is an uptown on the Mainland area of Lagos. It is well known as one of the commercial nerve centers of Nigeria. It is an organized, clean and quiet commercial and residential town with well equipped hospitals, shopping malls and government reservation areas. It is the seat of the Lagos State Government. Ikeja is popular in the region because it is home to multinational companies.

However, there are also many tourist attractions in Ikeja. The Murtala Mohammed international airport is located in Ikeja. It now boasts a shopping mall, Ikeja city mall, which is the largest mall in the Mainland of Lagos State and also has a cinema.

Being the commercial hub of Nigeria, there is a high driving demand need for quality performance of mobile network coverage. This report is based on consumer experience in the LTE networks in Ikeja during day time hours. The drive was conducted on the 29th of March 2019 between the hours of 10am to 5:25pm.

The five mobile wireless broadband service providers evaluated are MTN, Globacom, 9Mobile, Airtel and Smile. The performance of the radio access networks of each service provider along each evaluated route, in comparison with the other service providers, is rated, using the following KPI weights: Connection Drop rate, 20%; Connection Setup Failure rate, 0%; Downlink Throughput distribution, 25%; Peak Downlink Throughput, 35%; Latency, 15% and Non-LTE UE Technology 5%.

SUMMARY

MTN and Airtel stand head and shoulders above the rest with regard to packet latency with MTN having lowest packet delay of all the networks. MTN and Glo have highest throughputs. 9mobile offers lowest throughput and connection drop rate. MTN offers higher peak downlink throughput than Smile even though its channel bandwidth is half that of Smile.
